“This is Our Home'' is a transformative creative project that came out of deep discussions with Pacific artists and storytellers during the 2024 Pacific Strategy Retreat. These artists are drawn from the different islands throughout the moana, and are part of the Treaty Initiative’s push to bring more Pacific artists and creatives into the climate space, to present the beauty of our Pacific cultures and to harness our musical and artistic heritage to tell the story of the Pacific’s fight for climate justice. The overriding sentiment was the need for greater emphasis on the indigenous forms of storytelling in how the Treaty Initiative - and the wider climate movement - speaks of climate action. The guidance was clear - move beyond just the traditional communications methods and include more artistic and culturally relevant forms of storytelling that incorporate music, dance, poetry and the like in order to both capture a larger audience and become more authentic in how we present our narratives. The project therefore unites indigenous Pacific Island artists to advocate for climate action and environmental stewardship in order to preserve our homes, through the power of arts, combining traditional forms with modern, digital storytelling to create compelling narratives. The album “This Is Our Home: Pacific Artists for Climate Action” will be released in mid September, 2024.
